Kathleen Moreau was born in Canton, Ohio and completed her undergraduate
degree at Malone College. She majored in psychology and was actively involved in
the theater program.
In 1975 she and her husband, Roger Carlson, moved to Pasadena, California..
She completed her graduate studies in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling at
Azusa Pacific University in collaboration with the California Family Study
Center in Burbank, California. During this time she also received additional
training in substance abuse counseling while working at Pasadena Community
Hospital.
After moving to Northwest Ohio in 1980, she worked in the community mental
health system, and then established a private practice in Montpelier, Ohio. From
1984 to 1994 she worked with a wide variety of clientele, including individuals,
couples, families, and children.
She was actively involved in treating survivors of abuse and domestic
violence, and helped establish group support programs for this population. She
also led Family Reconstruction groups and continued work with those recovering
from addictions.
Her interest in dream work and the deeper psychological work required in
midlife adjustments led her, in 1995, to the C. G. Jung Institute - Zurich,
Switzerland. There, she completed requirements for the Diploma in Analytical
Psychology, graduating in July 2001.
While residing in Zurich, she worked with individual analysands, learned
Jungian approaches to Sandplay, completed a rotation in psychopathology while
working with clients in Dublin, Ireland, and expanded her capabilities in group
approaches to psychological change.
Her thesis, accepted in 2001, was "THE OLD WAYS ARE LOST: A LONG NIGHT’S
JOURNEY INTO LIGHT". Using the music of Lorenna McKennitt, her thesis describes
the individuation process of a woman, addresses the re-emergence of the feminine
principle and, acknowledges the healing power of images.
Since 2000, she has continued to work with clients at her offices in Bryan,
Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
As part of the examination process in Zurich, Kathleen prepared material
addressing:
- links between the analytical process, The
Ten Oxherding Pictures of Buddhist Teaching, and
the Quaker religious experience of silence;
- links between the analytical process, Navaho Blessingway, and Sand
Paintings;
- links between the analytical process, Celtic Mythology, and its similarity
to Rites of Passage or Initiation;
- psychological dimensions of the character of Eowyn in The Lord of The
Rings.
